Day 128: Stuck in the Moment

Driving down the road
I wonder
What this all looked like a hundred years ago
Five hundred?
Six hundred thousand?
Was it just trees and animals?
Lakes and streams
Birds chirping
The food chain and the circle life working in perfect harmony
And I wonder what it will look like
One hundred
Six hundred years from now
Of course cars will fly
Perhaps people
Scotty might be beaming us up by then
Some might be living on Mars
Or cities floating in the ocean
All the old world problems will be solved
To make way for the war with aliens
Driving down the road
I like to wonder
But wondering doesn’t get me anything
It doesn’t buy me McDonald’s
Or a new house
Wondering won’t get my homework done
Or take the wife out for date night
Wondering is wonderful
Until I blink
The light turns red
And I have to brake to realize that I will never escape
