Day 132: The Greatest Donut

If You Don’t Like Chocolate-Covered Custard-Filled Long John Donuts with Sprinkles, You Can Get the Hell Out

Yes, chocolate-covered custard-filled long john donuts with sprinkles are the ultimate donut. There is probably no other food in the world that I love more than the custard-filled long john. Creme filled can get the hell out. White chocolate can get the hell out. Fancy star and heart toppings can get the hell out. Sure, there are plenty of other donuts that I enjoy, but nothing tops that custard filled chocolate delight.

The Boston Creme from Tim Horton’s is okay in a pinch. I don’t know why they put creme in the name when it is custard filled. Boston Custard just doesn't roll of the tongue as well, but it's still misleading. I didn't try it for the longest time because I thought it was creme filled. Donna’s Donut’s in Flint has a chocolate covered custard (round) donut that is pretty phenomenal. I get one almost every Friday. But nothing tops the long john from Frank’s Supermarket in Chesaning, MI. All of their donuts are fantastic. I don’t know if it is the oil they use or the recipes, but they are best on the planet. And yes, I am biased. I grew up eating those donuts, so my palette is probably trained to like those donuts over any other (similar to the mom’s spaghetti and grandma’s cookies syndrome). But I will defend my taste in donuts forever.

The reason that I like the long john so much is simple math. The donut is larger, therefore I receive more chocolate, custard, and sprinkles for the same price as a standard round donut. Plus it’s delicious.

That’s all I have to say about that. I feel like the guy in the meme sitting behind the sign that says “Change my mind” at the bottom. Well, go for it. Try. You will fail. Long live the long john!
