Day 139: It Was Nice

It was nice when you said hi, with your
Half-shaved beard
Tall enough to dunk the Sears Tower
The door held open
Eternity before us, your hand
Letting go of the clear glass
Reflecting the distance of our future
Children swinging on the swings you built
A dog,
Maybe a cat to paw around on Sunday mornings
Coffee in our tired cups that we can’t help but love
Sam and Heather playing in the sandpit
A jungle gym and swing
Sunflowers on Sundays rides
With the kids playing Gameboy in the backseat
Disney,
Promotions,
And that stable sex life that the therapist and my mom said we should have
Books about the books we should be reading
Graduation
Finding ourselves in mountains, oceans, and the wingspan of the world
Two chairs to fit our two lives
Together
Bound in a clear rectangle
Reflecting your smile
And a simple palm
Opening a simple door of the local coffee shop
We turn in separate ways
Towards the opposite ends of the small parking lot
Wondering
