Here is a link to a cool website that compares the scales of hundreds of things in the universe, starting with humans: https://scaleofuniverse.com/. You can scale down to the quantum fabric and “strings” and scale up to the theoretical and observable universe. And there is everything in between. I suggest you play with it for a while before reading further.
Okay, your back. Isn’t’ that f’in cool?! It’s addicting. It’s daunting. It’s so hard to wrap the mind around something so big or so small. Our world—our life—is seen from one perspective, for the most part. So, thinking of traveling anywhere to a galaxy that dwarfs the Milky Way feels like an ant making its way to the Moon. On a philosophical level, I think it is important in life that our perspective seems to be in the middle of the pack as far as life goes. Our perspective allows us to wonder in all directions.
Playing with this app, I starting thinking of the smallest and largest of things. And then what is beyond them. Because it does seem like there is not an end, or at least not one that we can observe with the greatest technology we have available today. You may have noticed that a large portion of things at the ends of the spectrum are spheres or clusters of spheres. Everything seems to follow a similar pattern of formation in the universe. So, in a way, a proton is similar to a star.
Thinking about everything as connected, I came up with a thought that I am sure that many people have probably thought in the past hundred years, since quantum particles were discovered. What if the infinite universe looped in on itself? So the smaller we go in the loop we will eventually “come out” the other end of the larger items in the universe and vice versa. The more we are able to observe the largest objects of the universe, the more we will understand that stars are just electrons and galaxies are just mitochondria (for example). And we live on something smaller than a quark yet gigantic to a single cell. We are large and small simultaneously. As is everything else; every thing has a unique place in life to observe the universe. And the universe is an infinite loop, similar to a donut, and the old video games where you could run into one side of the screen and come out the other.
Think about it for a bit. Just until your frontal cortex tingles.
It’s just a thought. There is no way to prove the theory, but I wanted to share it with you. I hope the website and my theory have helped your mind explode just a little.
