Day 147: The Shrew

Known for their smell
Poison
And aggressive nature
Annoying to humans
Used as an unfair metaphor
To describe a harsh or aggressive woman
(Thank Shakespeare)
They cannot survive long
Constantly searching for food
In the cold of winter wind
Needing to feed their young
Snowing streaming
One darts out onto the pavement
To find a meal across the road
So small it could be a tumbling leaf
With the flash of car lights
It stops
Long nose sniffing
Soft fur waving in the wind
Waiting for the danger to pass
Smarter than deer
I smile
The shrew lives for one more day
