Day 163: If Rain Fell Backward

We could still be sitting on the couch

Watching the show

Wondering what happens next

Instead

I brought it up again

Without thought or intention

Like a burp of words

I regret without taking them back

Your shoes untied

Hitting the pavement

Gas igniting the engine

Headlights blind my sorries

Ringing out in the empty air

Back to your place to figure us out

If only rain fell backward

Up into the sky

Packed away into clouds, fluffy and dark

Safe from harm

The phone call comes in the morning

From the officer about the train wreck
