Day 196: Forgotten Bones

Sometimes I think about the history of the Earth, the history of humans and other animals and plants. The vastness of the entirety of life on this planet.
All that ever lived is still here, inside our Earth.
Everything besides the dogs, monkeys, and mice that we sent into space.
The rest is here, under our feet.
Drifting in water.
Floating with the air.
Nothing has left Earth yet. All the energy is recycled. Particles of elements exchanging neutrons and combining to create something new.
Yet, what is new?
New is a collection of the past with a changed name. A new face.
But the bones are the same — only forgotten. The carbon particles borrowed.
It is an honor to be alive. To know that through the infinite randomness of life, I made it. Thank you to the life that has passed in order for these words to exist.
I think about the history of everything and wonder what will happen to me. Where will my carbon end up?
But I don’t think too long. For there is little time to be me. Every breath is worth a fortune.
