Because the world is round, not every day is going to be a grand ol’ day. Most days seem to be a repeat of the last one except that we are one day closer to Friday, which is one day closer to Saturday when we get to sleep more! That is, for those of us that don’t have young children. For those that do, congratulations. I’m sorry.
The point is that some days are good and some days are awful. Sometimes we get a string of bad days. Personally, these past two weeks have held some sort of negative vibes gurgling through my stomach, literally. For those of you faithful readers, I apologize for all the philosophical grandstanding. I couldn’t figure out why things were not seeming as good or even as okay as normal. These phases come and go, and I knew this melancholy episode would subside eventually.
So in the meantime, I decided to start listening to The Beatles again on a daily basis. There is just something about their songs, their music, their sound that just brings a smile to my face and makes me want to dance alone on my linoleum kitchen floor. With socks on, of course. Just listening to A Little Help From My Friends and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da really makes me believe George Harrison when he sings Here Comes the Sun. That's right, George wrote that.
Music has a profound effect on our moods. For us music lovers, you know. I don’t need to get into a scientific explanation. And the idea behind music for our moods cannot be captured by just one band. Finding music to match our mood or match the mood we want to be in can really pull us in sync with those songs. The waves flow through our bones and the world seems okay again, if only for two and a half minutes.
Author’s Note #1: Piggies is one of the greatest songs ever written.
Author’s Note #2: But I also feel the same about Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff. So...
