Day 21: Winter is Here, From Alaska

Yes, the snow has fallen and it is officially stuck to the ground. Snow machines are out and roaring; the hoods and mittens are pulled up tight; and there is not a single leaf to find. They’re all in relationships! Du-da-chhhhh

Oh, I crack myself up.

But what is there to do on a Saturday in the middle of the Alaskan bush? For starters, I will eat two eggs, a pair of Brown Suger Cinnamon Pop-Tarts, and drink some coffee. I will watch another episode (or two) of Atypical on Netflix. Then I will start writing for the day. After that, there is homework to finish/stare at long enough that my fingers decide to form a few sentences (the bare minimum to satisfy the professor).

I think, there is a long hike in my future.

It is time to put on those bunny boots (Mickey Mouse boots), thick winter mittens, and nine layers of clothing for an adventure up the hill. There is a place called The Bald. That is an area of a hill or mountain that is not covered by trees, which is similar to an aging man’s head. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: trees are just Earth’s hair. It is a steep climb to The Bald, but then the trail continues into the woods and back to what the locals call the New Road. It is a gravel road that runs along the foothill peaks that surround the town like a half-bowl.

I am guessing that it will be a two mile or so hike. And I am curious if the trail has already been groomed by snowmobiles or if I will have to trudge through the foot-deep snow. Either way, it will be a nice day out in nature.

To all you Michiganders, I hope you’re Saturday has turned out well so far. I heard the north half of you got some snow too. Time to start up the snowmachines. I think it’s gonna be a cold one this year. Cheers.

Author’s Note #1: I will not be taking many pictures because my phone battery likes to die in cold weather. But I promise to take one.

Author's Note #2: iPhone 6s sucks. (First-world problems)
