Day 238: Tree as We

Tree bark rarely sheds in its entirety, unlike our skin cells that are flaking at every moment. The bark is a protector as our skin is a protector. But if we were to cut through our legs we would not find the visual rings of growth. Yet we grow similar to the tree. The nearest ring to the bark is the latest layer in a tree’s long life, which is similar to how humans grow. What has happened the most recently to us is shown on our outer layers. What we learned as a child and in between is tucked away at our core, unable to fully show their true form to the world. Although, the residue effects of the bumps of bruises exist through every subsequent layer. And the repair of these scars, the smoothing out of the tree, depends on our health each year — whether we got enough sun and water. The human body is much more complicated in its growth and decay, but can be easily understood by just looking at a table. The lines reveal our progress while the knots highlight our most vivid moments.
Author's Note #1: That is the third day in a row that I have written about trees, from one perspective or another. That was completely unintentional. Yet, it may be a sign of internal growth.
