As some of you may have noticed, I have not been writing for the past few days. I decided to take a real vacation from everything. I spent the weekend up north at our family cabin. A few friends and a few family members came up too. We spent a lot of time in the lake swimming and playing volleyball in the water. There were a ton of boats and jet skis out and about. On top of being the 4th of July weekend, the lower half of the state had to up their COVID restrictions. Beyond the normal vacationers that frequent Northern Michigan on the weekends and holidays, I can only imagine how many people fled the towns in Southern Michigan to feel a little bit of freedom coincidentally on the anniversary of our nation’s freedom.
The second half of my vacation was on Mackinac Island and in Mackinaw City, visiting some hard-working friends. The island is just as busy as ever and everyone is short-staffed. Many people are working seven days a week and several doubles back to back. A normal shift, from what I heard, is probably around ten hours. And somehow there were plenty of people that were able to spend a few minutes to chat with us and gives us some cheers. I was even able to be apart of the local street hockey game! Most importantly, I was able to spend a lot of quality time with several important people in my life.
This writing experiment was meant to be done daily, but it has evolved. It has evolved because I am growing. I learning to be kinder to myself through my writing and by spending time with friends and family. When I’m old, I know I will mostly think about the goods times I had with people and rarely about the words I wrote. Time is the most important currency and this past weekend was well spent.
Author’s Note #1: To make up for the missing days there will be several posts popping up for the next couple of days.
