Day 325: The Dam

It only takes a moment to build the foundation

Pour all the cement through the rushing water

And not a stone gets wet

It only takes a moment for your job to change

From explorer to builder

Watching the bricks fall from the sky and land in the kitchen

The dark bedroom with echoes vibrating the pillow

The apartment door slams and nothing makes sense

It only takes a moment to forget reality

To hide inside the fantasies played out with plastic dolls

Watching dinner being prepared with only half of you at the table

It only takes a moment to forget how to cry

It only takes a moment to learn how to live in two houses

It only takes a moment to plaster every single brick and crack

Until every once of water is held back

It only takes a moment to forget about the dam

To play out the scenes of life

To walk the dry empty path

Hoping for the fork to bring you back to the start

So you can tell them how much you will hurt after it breaks

Because

It only takes a moment for it to collapse

It only takes a moment to drown
