Day 343: Fighting my Eyelids and my Stomach

This may seem obvious, but I am increasingly noticing the correlation between the amount of energy in my body and the ability for my brain to function well. During the morning, after a couple of cups of coffee, my brain is usually tweaking to the point that physical activity is necessary to balance out the flood of thoughts. For that reason, it would be a good idea to write in the morning. My mind will naturally be more creative. There are also other foods and drinks that help or hinder my ability to think well. But when the body and mind are tired, it is extremely hard to find a unique topic to write about. My thoughts are all focused on sleep and the quickest route to the bed.


Alas, I do not want to skip a day, so here we are. I suppose this post is mainly about awareness. It is important to be aware of how our bodies and mind function under certain circumstances. As I said, it may seem obvious in hindsight to say that coffee makes me more creative because the caffeine is stimulating the synapse in my brain at a higher rate or that a heavy meal will reduce my ability to function physically because the body is focused on digesting too much food, but it is worth noting that we easily forget the outcomes of actions when we are having a craving.


The body pulls and tugs in many directions. Being aware of the where and why is important because then we can make decisions that support those baser cravings or choose to ignore our feelings and use our brains to make the decision. The trouble with the latter is that the mind is part of the body and when there is a craving, the body will cycle through every excuse to try to convince the mind that the craving is worth the succumbing. And the body wins the vast majority of the time.


For now, I have fought my eyelids long enough. When the body wants to sleep, that is the one thing that I should give it.
