In the endless void of night

Hazed orange globes and clusters

Are scattered throughout the black land like sprinkles

Occupying the settlements of the west

I think of what Neal said:

There are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on all of Earth

How few we can actually see

Our tiny planet

Revolving around a grain of sand

As the plane crawls across the sky

I imagine we are space travelers

Screeching across the universe faster than light

Porch lights and small towns become stars and galaxies

Humbly happy in their home

Our corner of time

A city glows on the horizon

Surrounded by an endless grid of street lamps

Illuminating

Humming

These tiny creatures

What wonderful progress they have made
